Electronic Stability Control

Every Hyundai Sonata comes standard with Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Why? Because study after study the ESC has shown that it dramatically reduces the likelihood of being involved in a crash. For the ESC it takes only a fraction of a second to detect when things are going awry. Based on how hard or how quickly you steer, a veritable army of sensors determines whether your intended path and your actual path are in sync. If ESC determines that the car is plowing, or turning less than you intended, it provides extra braking force to the rear inside wheel; if the car is fishtailing, or turning more than intended, it provides extra braking force to the front outside wheel.

Two Efficient Engines

Instead of creating a 4-cylinder and a 6-cylinder option like the competition, Hyundai Sonata engineers decided to get more power out of a better, fuel-efficient 4-cylinder engine. Their plan resulted in two of the most revolutionary engines available. The Sonata’s 2.4L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated 4-cylinder in its class. Delivering up to 200 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, the 2.4L gets a segment-leading 35 miles from every gallon of gas. This allows it to meet Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standards, and in some states, a version even qualifies for Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) status.

The Sonata 2.0T is a game-changer. This 4-cylinder twin-scroll turbo pumps out 274 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque—more than the V6 Camry, Accord and Altima. And at 33 MPG, blows them all away on fuel economy as well. Don’t spend more on a less-economical V6 when you can get more power and better MPG with the 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T.
